Our Agenda

Broadband

Quality access to the internet is a basic right in today’s world and this is a high priority issue for The Children’s Movement. TCM is part of the Fresno Coalition for Digital Inclusion (FCDI), a cross-sector group that includes institutions, public agencies, the County and City of Fresno and multiple community-based organizations. TCM is the convener and facilitator of the Digital Literacy Coalition which is focused on the connectivity, device and digital literacy portion of the overall FCDI effort.

Child Care

The steady decline (over the past twelve plus years) of available child care slots in both centers and family child care homes has long been an area of concern. The gap in supply has intensified over the past eighteen months due to the pandemic and working to solve this challenge is a high priority for TCM. Affordable and high quality child care and early education are complex matters with multiple policy implications and multiple partners are working collaboratively to improve systems and outcomes.

Mental Health

A number of community surveys have been conducted over the past year and quantitative and qualitative responses have indicated there is a high need for mental health support in both urban and rural Fresno County. Many members of TCM work directly with children and families in the area of behavioral health and work to promote mental health, wellbeing and resilience. TCM is committed to identifying and implementing policies that help those who are facing mental health or substance abuse challenges receive all that they need to get better.
